Minn. Stat. 168.013 subd. 1a(e)–(f). Vehicles first registered in Minnesota before November 16, 2020 use a 1.54 percent rate applied to MSRP plus the destination charge.

What else appears on the bill

The wheelage tax is set by each county board at up to $20 a year, so it varies by where you live. The registration tax on a vehicle that has been registered before can never exceed the smallest amount previously paid on that vehicle.

The electric vehicle surcharge minimum drops from $150 to $100 for registration periods beginning July 1, 2027.
