What to know about Mississippi

Two things catch people out. Mississippi gives zero credit for sales tax paid to another state on a vehicle, so buying out of state can mean paying twice. And a private sale is taxed on the Department of Revenue’s book value, not what you paid. A vehicle 10 or more years past manufacture is exempt in a private sale, as are transfers between close family.
