Oregon charges no sales tax on a vehicle purchase.

Oregon has no sales tax. New vehicles do carry a 0.5 percent privilege tax, and a matching use tax applies if you buy a new vehicle out of state.

The 0.5 percent applies only to vehicles with 7,500 miles or less bought from a dealer. Used and private-party sales are untaxed. Trade-ins and down payments do not reduce the base.

Buying the car is only half the cost. You still owe an annual registration fee.
