What to know about Arizona

Private-party sales in Arizona are not taxed at all, which is rare. Buy from a neighbour and you owe nothing. Dealer sales carry the state rate plus city and county rates, and many cities apply a lower rate to the portion of the price above a threshold. Separately, Arizona charges an annual Vehicle License Tax at registration based on 60 percent of the original MSRP depreciating 16.25 percent a year.
