Missouri has a 180-day rule that most states do not. If you sell your old car privately within 180 days before or after buying another, that sale amount is credited just like a trade-in, and you can claim a refund if you already paid. Local rates stack city, county, ambulance and fire district taxes based on your address, so they vary block by block.
